CENTRE PHILOSOPHY

At Fairbairn Rd Kindergarten we believe that all children should be treated as unique individuals and nurtured to promote their overall well-being.  The teachers proved a planned program, which caters for the children’s age and interests, and provides a positive environment to promote active learning and development through play.

This belief is supported by the BELONGING, BEING, and BECOMING framework.

There are 5 learning outcomes under the title of Being, Belonging and Becoming and they are:

1.     Children have a strong sense of identity

2.     Children are connected with and contribute to their world

3.     Children have a strong sense of well being

4.     Children are confident and involved learners

5.     Children are effective communicators

We acknowledge the importance of ongoing learning and creative expression, and believe a child’s potential is supported by an engaging environment that includes play, exploration, expressing thoughts & ideas, practicing skills, problem solving, promoting independence, role modeling, routines, security and social interactions.

The program is designed to meet the needs of all children, both developmentally and educationally, across all areas of development   – physically, socially, emotionally, intellectually and creatively. The program also aims to help children develop and process information about themselves and their environment.

ROTATIONAL ALPABET GROUPINGS

With rotational alphabet groupings, over the course of the week, the children get to meet all the four year old children at our Kindergarten, which is of great benefit and assists them to feel more comfortable throughout the year. The more familiar faces at a new kindergarten the better!

The social benefits of rotational alphabet groupings (3 group rotation model) cannot be emphasized enough. The children meet and play with new friends and old friends each day. And very early in the year, children are able to remember, for example, that a particular friend they enjoy the company of may come on a Tuesday and a Wednesdays, and others they enjoy playing with, may come on a Monday.

Rotational alphabet groupings tend to allow children to extend and enjoy friendships, with different social dynamics each session, and this can often help minimize ‘clickiness’ (children staying with the same small group of friends all year, without branching out)

Grouping our children in the above groups allows us to offer our four year old children two, FIVE and a HALF hour sessions per week, which totals eleven hours of high quality kindergarten for each of our children.
