Our Philosophy

We acknowledge the Boonwurrung People of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and learn. We are committed to embedding First Nations perspectives within our learning curriculum, including the importance of respecting Country through sustainable practices and teaching children how to take care of it.

Relationships

• As a team, we believe relationships are fundamental to children’s learning, development and wellbeing.
• We create a safe and inclusive learning environment which promotes a strong sense of belonging and fosters positive, respectful and engaging learning relationships.
• We invite families to deepen their connections with the kindergarten and support their children’s learning and development.
• We strengthen our community connections through our reciprocal visits with our neighbour Kingsville Primary School.

Empowerment

• We value each child for who they are and support them in building their social and emotional skills, confidence, independence and creativity.
• The children thrive at kindergarten when their voices are heard and have agency to lead their learning.
• We encourage the children to engage in collaborative learning and show respect for others.

Growth

• Our indoor and outdoor programs promote ongoing learning and a sense of wonder and joy.
• Educators act with intentionality to support and enrich children’s thinking and learning through play.
• As part of our commitment to lifelong learning educators engage in regular critical reflection and professional development to ensure best practice.
• We hope that throughout their time at Merriwa Kindergarten each child has fun and weaves their own meaningful story.
